North Shore Animal League
The North Shore Animal League America, located in Port Washington, NY, is the world's largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption center. They offer structured volunteer opportunities for teens interested in helping rescued cats and dogs.
The primary entry point for young individuals is the Junior Volunteer Program, which generally accepts teens aged 16 and older. Roles usually focus on critical support tasks that keep the shelter running smoothly, such as folding laundry, preparing food, creating enrichment toys, general cleaning, and assisting with cat socialization. Due to liability and safety rules, direct handling of dogs and more intensive animal care tasks are usually reserved for volunteers who are 18 or older.
